Individual Assignment #2

IA 02
The person that I chose to interview is a criminology/psychology major in their third year at Chatham. My Interviewee preferred to stay anonymous, but said that in their free-time they enjoy going to the Cold Cases Club meetings, watching Netflix, and hanging out with their friends.
My interviewee said that the study strategies that they have found most successful while here at Chatham are studying with flash cards, and studying with a friend. The reason that they claimed these are the best study methods are because they allow for you to study with interaction. Studying with a bunch of flash cards is a good way to learn because it allows you to go over a topic and giving yourself an attempt at solving it before flipping it over and getting the correct answer, which makes the memorizing of a topic more convenient. Studying with a person is also a good way to learn because it is the same concept as using flash cards, except that using another person to help you study allows for you to both see, and hear the answer which can make studying even easier.
The advice given to me for how to build a good portfolio was to be part of clubs that are connected to the line of work I would like to do in the future, and to find a good internship that is also in the line of work that I would like to be in. Being a part of a club can help your portfolio by showing that you took an outside interest in a club that was related to the career that you hope to have. Finding a good internship can be hard, but having it looks good on a resume because it shows experience and can also be a great stepping stone to a job at the same place you had an internship yet.
The article that I chose was the article on Rachel Kolar because I can relate to her in the fact that we are both at chatham for the small class size and that we are both student athletes. I believe that the advice given is similar to the advice given by my interviewee in the fact that she is the President of the Accounting Club at Chatham, and the advice given to me said that I should get involved in clubs. The concept that we have learned in class that I would relate this to would be self-advertising because it is all about selling yourself and building a brand around yourself.
